Tips and Tricks: Snowed in

I'm praying that this insane amount of snow falling from the sky, which is making me highly irritable, won't keep me from going home tomorrow afternoon! Yet, even if I do manage to back it back to the burbs, I'll be pushed indoor with my family, a pack of cookie dough and a few movies. I can't complain, but I can spice things up and make tomorrow night the perfect girls night with my sister. Hopefully intense planning and preparation will lead to the ultimate girls night. Here's the layout for the night:

5:00pm- Junkie for Junk Food
A true girl's night encompasses all things fatty, sugary and sweet! The perfect meal consists of take-out from your favorite Chinese place. I'm craving crab rangoon and sweet-n-sour chicken already, so I may have to pregame tomorrow night's dinner with some late-night munchies....

6:00pm- Mad for Mani's
Every single teenage movie depicts a girl's night as an at-home spa night! Take this time to get creative with your and your besties. Browse Pinterest for adventurous and fun nail patterns and ideas, hair-dos and facial treatments. Pinterest is the perfect place to set up a night at the spa! If you're willing to take the time, you can even make a "Girl's Night" board.

7:00pm- Rom-coms
Rom-coms (aka, romantic comedies) are the only option for a girl's night. My top picks include 13 Going on 30, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Definitely Maybe, and of course, John Tucker Must Die. Don't be afraid to dive into one, two or even three movies!

Sweet Snacks:
A girl's night is not complete without a yummy treat to snack on during the movie! Below are a few of my favorites from Pinterest that I've been dying to try. Still, my heart will always belong to cookie dough!

[birthday cake batter pancakes... say what?!]

[MONSTER cookie dough dip, i'm basically dying]

[Oreo and Peanut Butter Brownie Cakes, I have no words]

Tumblr Thursday: Random Musings

Oops! I forgot to do my "Tumblr Tuesday" this week! I've been so caught up in midterms that I've had no free time to browse tumblr, online shop or even enjoy a cup of coffee! (Oh, what a life I lead). Still, I thought Tumblr Thursday would suffice this week. Forgive me?

A Need for Neon

Do not let the cold and dreary weather get you down these next fews months. Spice up your look with a pop of a neon clutch to keep your spirits high! Neon is the perfect accessory in winter because it brings a dash of color to a boring backdrop. One of my favorite purchases is a pink, neon clutch from Aldo for about $20. I paired it with a tight, bandage dress, blazer and heels to make my look fun and edgy. If you don't have a neon bag, be sure to pick one up so you can breathe some life into your winter wardrobe!

Prepster on the Loose

I want to live in a J.Crew magazine. Period. It always pictures a classic American family enjoying preppy time on the beach, in their preppy clothes, with their preppy dog, in the preppy weather, drinking preppy drinks and talking about preppy things. I'm far from preppy, but I'd like to be.

I've starting doing my research and I've realized I've got to start buying Vineyard Vines, The Frat Collection, Jack Rodgers, Polo Ralph Lauren, Patagonia and of course, Sperry. I've complied a collage of what I like to think of as perfectly preppy. It contains pieces from a variety of stores, and I'm hoping it will be a good start to a J.Crew lifestyle.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you're enjoying your heaps and heaps of chocolate just as much as I am! Don't think of today as a day of loving someone else, but rather think of it as a day of loving yourself and your life. Use today to find the little things you appreciate and love in your life. Use today to create a life you are proud of living. Use today to spoil and love yourself!

It's All in the Eyes

As Tyra Banks so elegantly puts it, it's important to "smile with your eyes" or "smize." Eye makeup can make a huge different in any look and any mood. I rely heavily on my eye makeup more than any other of my face products. The right combination of eye shadow can complete any outfit. Below are my favorite eye products that I use on a daily basis.

It's All in the Eyes

Eye Primers:

Urban Decay Primer Potion:
Always, always, always prime your eyes before you put on eyeshadow. When you use a primer you are coating your eyes to make your shadow stay longer and look brighter! I swear by Urban Decay's Primer Potion because it allows my shadow to stay on all day, without smudging or dimming.

Lorac Eye Primer:
Another one of my favorite primer's is by Lorac. This primer is perfect since it's smaller in size for travel and on-the-go. Both Lorac and Urban Decay primer's cost about $20, and can be found at stores like Sephora or Ulta.

Eye Liners:

MAC Eye Pencils
I always go to MAC for my eyeshadows and eyeliners. MAC understands how to create rich, long lasting, dramatic eye products. My daily eyeliner is a black crayon from Mac that lasts me throughout the day and night. If you feel adventurous, MAC also makes the liner in colors like purple, blue or lavender.

Revlon Liquid Liner
This classic drugstore liner is inexpensive and does the trick! I love Revlon's liquid eyeliner because it goes on easy and lasts through rain and shine. Mine is waterproof and it stays on whether it's raining, i'm crying or I'm in the shower. I always buy it when it's buy one get one half off to keep in my purse for a quick fix between class!

Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner
I've just recently starting experimenting with gel liner and I love it already! For gel liner, you buy a little jar and apply it with a small, angled brush. It takes practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked! Gel liner is perfect for creating cat eyes and winged lids.

Eye Shadows

Lorac's Pro Line for Fall 2012
The Fall 2012 collection for Lorac is the perfect palette for me. Consisting of both matte and sparkly shadows, this palette brings together all of my favorite colors. Lorac's colors are never too dramatic or bold, and are perfect for everyday wear. Daily I apply the light pink to my upper lids, mauve to my middle, and a sparkly champagne close to my upper and lower lash line. This palette is perfect if you like subtle and classy colors.

I adore each and every mascara by Maybelline. Maybelline is known for a wide variety of mascaras, all providing a different look in each tube. My favorites are the classic Great Lash and bold Volume Express. Whether I'm looking for an everyday look or a dramatic eye, Maybelline has the perfect mascara for me.

Eye Brushes

These inexpensive brushes can be found at Sephora, Ulta or even Walgreens! I love eco tool brushes because them come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and aren't too pricy! It's incredibly important to have a variety of brush sizes so you can change up your eye shadow looks for every occasion!

Those are just a few of my favorite eye makeup products! What are you favorites? I'd love to hear!

Valentine's Day Series: Gift Guide

In two days I will be shoving my face with every piece of chocolate in sight, and I will feel no shame. Yet, Valentine's Day isn't all about the chocolate, sadly, it's about expressing your love to those around you. It's obviously important to tell your significant other that you love them on this day, but it reaches beyond them. Use this day to express your gratitude towards friends and family as well. Here's a few ideas for gifts for you guy, your best friend and your family.

Your Guy
Food is always the obvious choice for any guy's gift. A giftcard to his favorite restaurant, or a batch of cookies will win him over in an instant. But if you want to bring it to the next level then you have to get creative! If you're crafty you can make him a coupon book or scrapbook of pictures. If you've got some extra cash then take him out to a sports game, and treat him to a corndog while you're at it! If you're an extremely devoted girlfriend, be his personal maid for the day. Cook for him, clean his room and do his laundry. Believe me, he will be in total awe.

Your Best Friend
After roaming through the Valentine's Day section at Walgreens, I realized how cheesy this holiday truly can be. So, embrace it with your best friend! Pick up cheesy Valentine's day cards, stuffed animals and obscene amounts of candies! I got my future roommate a box of Snoopy chocolates to nibble on throughout the week. A simple and fun gift like this will make you both giggle, and gain a few pounds.

Your Family
A handwritten note is not only cheaper than a bouquet of flowers or chocolate, but it means so much more! Send your love ones a note expressing your thanks for all of their support and throughout the year. Trust me, it will mean so much to them to hear a simple "thank you." If you are away at school or abroad, this is an especially perfect gift! It will cost you a stamp and an envelope and twenty minutes of your time, but that's about it. So take the time to say thank you and I love you to those people important in your life.

Valentine's Day Series: Date Ideas

Now that it's February, all that's on my mind is Valentine's Day! I have an event planned with my sorority that night, so my boyfriend is off the hook for thinking of a cute date for us. Still, not all girls are this lucky. While you can't tell your boyfriend what to do for Valentine's Day, you can leave subtle hints like sending him pinterest picks, pictures of things, or even this blog post ;)
Here's a few cute and inexpensive date ideas for you and your man on February 14th!

My high score in bowling is a 70, so clearly I'm not in it for the win. Still, bowling is a fun and different way to celebrate Valentine's Day! Head down to your nearest bowling alley, order a pizza and let the fun begin! I always like to make it interesting by making a bet with my boyfriend. Last time the loser had to buy the winner dinner. (I won, but he gave me a 100 pin handicap so it didn't totally count). If bowling isn't enough, turn the night into a night of games! Head over to the arcade and play some classic Pacman or DDR. Competition is always a good time, and a night like this strays away from all that mooshy, gooshy stuff that guys don't always enjoy.

Making Dinner
Cooking together is one of the best activities to do with your man, especially on Valentine's Day! Make a day of it! Look online for your favorite recipes and head over to the grocery store together. I guarantee that watching your guy look for ingredients will be entertaining. Then head over to your kitchen and prepare an appetizer and dinner. Of course, it's always more fun to have your favorite music playing in the background so you can dance around the kitchen. After dinner, clean up and relax for a bit so your stomach can settle for dessert! My favorite dessert is chocolate fondue because it's simple to make and it's incredibly delicious! When you're stuffed, plop down on the couch and turn on a movie.

Ice Skating
Ice skating brings a little more romance into the picture. If you are as bad as I am, you'll spend the whole night hanging on to your date for dear life. Still, ice skating is a fun and classic way to spend Valentine's Day. Ice skating is perfect for you and your guy, or a big group of people. If your man doesn't want to be alone you can grab a group of your friends to join you! While you'll go as a group, you can still break off in couples to skate around the rink. When you're done you can chat while sipping on hot chocolate and chowing down on cookies.

Hopefully one of those ideas will be perfect for your Valentine's Day celebration. Let me know what you think, and comment if you have any ideas to share! I'd love to hear them!

Mad for Mint

Although February may bring special attention to pinks and reds, I have my eye on another trend. Mint has been a trend for quite a while now, and I'm totally onboard! Mint has been shown since the summer through accessories and nail polish, but now it's starting to make its way into shoes and clothing. I think mint is the perfect color for winter, it's bright pop of color cheers up a dreary day and outfit.
